Joyce King

Joyce King is a contemporary Nigerian visual artist based in Canada. Born in Lagos, her relationship with art began early, shaped by hours spent drawing and painting alongside her father, who encouraged her creative curiosity from a young age.
Although she earned a degree in political science and sociology from the University of Alberta, her commitment to art remained central. After graduating, Joyce chose to pursue her practice independently, developing her skills through self directed study and consistent studio work. In 2024, she presented her first solo exhibition.
Her work is defined by bold color, structured color blocking, and distinctive portraiture. Influenced by Western themes, modern fashion, womanhood, and consumer culture, Joyce’s paintings explore contemporary identity through a refined, narrative driven lens.
